Johnnie L. Jackson has been chosen to represent East Central Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute February 13-15, 2008, in Atlanta. Johnnie was selected as the 2008 EAGLE by his teacher Mrs. Sylvia Lockett. She states, “He has a natural gift to be able to make encouraging, rhythmic comments at the appropriate time. It is my belief that he will be a viable spokesman for the Adult Literacy programs throughout the state of Georgia.” The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult literacy classes and programs.
EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in the adult literacy programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
Johnnie completed his GED on February 14, 2007, and is currently serving on the Advisory Committee for the Adult Literacy program in Ben Hill County.
The Technical College System of Georgia, Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) through its Office of Adult Literacy (OAL) sponsors the annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Leadership Institute.
