What is COMPASS?
The COMPASS is a
computerized, adaptive test developed by American College
Testing (ACT) that measures skills in reading, writing and
mathematics. COMPASS is designed to help you succeed in your
educational program by identifying your strengths as well as
areas where you might need improvement. With this knowledge,
you can work together with your school to choose classes
that build logically upon your current knowledge and skills.
How are COMPASS scores used?
The COMPASS is not
used like a traditional set of tests. Instead of having a
pass or fail score, COMPASS scores indicate areas where you
excel and areas where you need help. Thus, COMPASS can
identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt
your educational progress, giving you the opportunity to
prepare more effectively for needed courses. You and your
institution can use scores from COMPASS tests to prepare a
course of study that will be appropriate, relevant, and
meaningful for you.
