Program Description

The Criminal Justice Technology program will prepare students for a career in the field of Criminal Justice. Throughout their program of study, students will gain broad academic and multi-disciplinary education that will help prepare them for careers in law enforcement. They will develop an understanding of the Criminal Justice System, study causes of criminal behavior, and examine basic research and methodologies needed to better serve and protect the citizens of our communities.

Length of Program

A minimum of 98 hours is required for graduation. A full-time student could expect to complete the program in six quarters. Completion time for part-time students will depend upon course load taken.

Campus Location

The Criminal Justice Technology degree program is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin and Coffee campuses and online.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the program will be prepared for a variety of careers in law enforcement, corrections, court services, juvenile services, private security, parole and probation, and public protection.

Salary Range

The average annual salary range for Criminal Justice Technology graduates is $18,700 to $24,590.  

Personal Characteristics

To succeed in the criminal justice field, an individual must be able to work without direct supervision, make sound decisions, possess solid character and ethics, demonstrate initiative, and possess the ability to multi-task. They should also possess strong oral and written communication skills, and utilize good interpersonal relations skills.

Entrance Requirements*
Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Placement exam required.

*A satisfactory criminal background check must be completed prior to entering the Criminal Justice practicum. A felony conviction could prevent employment in the Criminal Justice field.
