Program Description

The Commercial Truck Driving Technical Certificate provides skills training to students interested in a transportation-related career. The technical certificate will provide entry-level skills through instilling the fundamentals of commercial truck driving and teaching basic and advanced operations using behind-the-wheel training. Classroom, driving range, and on-the-road experiences prepare students to become truck drivers. At the completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the Georgia CDL state exam.

Length of Program

A minimum of 15 credit hours is required for graduation. A full-time student can complete the program in one quarter.

Campus Location

The Commercial Truck Driving technical certificate program is offered twice each quarter on the Coffee campus.

To succeed in the Commercial Truck Driving Program and obtain a career in the field, a person should enjoy working with people and possess strong customer service skills.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates may find employment as truck drivers. Transportation related careers have tremendous growth potential.


Salary Range

The average annual salary range for Commercial Truck Driving graduates is $20,000 to $40,000.

Entrance Requirements

Required Age: 21 years of age or older
(18-20 year olds may take the program, but can only drive in Georgia)
Valid Georgia Driver's License
Placement exam required.
Prospective students should be advised that the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulates commercial driver licensing and requires a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug test and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report prior to the issuance of a commercial drivers license (CDL) or learners permit, which is required prior to beginning in-the-truck training. Further, random drug testing is required during the course of the Commercial Truck Driving program (FMCSA Regulations 382.305 and 392, subpart E).
