Program Description
This diploma program will prepare students for a career in the
next generation of telecommunications technologies and will
provide them with a variety of employment opportunities in the
growing field of telecommunications. Throughout their program of
study, students will gain broad academic and multi-disciplinary
education that will help prepare them for careers as
telecommunications installers, service technicians, and
networking technicians. They will develop an understanding of
the telecommunications and networking industries and the
relationship between, voice, data, and video in converged
applications and networks. The graduates will have the hands-on
skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in this
expanding technological field.

Length of Program
A minimum of 92 credit hours is required for graduation. A
full-time student could expect to complete the program in
five to six quarters.
Campus Location
The Convergent Technology diploma is
offered quarterly on the Ben Hill-Irwin campus.
Employment Opportunities
The need for well-trained and qualified
technicians will continue to increase in the field of
telecommunications as many of the service providers and
other telecommunications companies implement new convergent
services including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and
IPTV, as well as continuing to deliver and maintain existing
telecommunications technologies. The new services will
become more complex and require a better-trained technician
for installation and repair.
Entrance Requirements
Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Placement exam required.
