Program Description

The Early Childhood Care and Education associate degree program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in child care and related fields. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of early childhood care and education theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an Early Childhood Care and Education Associate of Applied Technology Degree and have the qualification of early childhood care and education paraprofessional or early childhood program management director.

Length of Program

A minimum of 110 credit hours is required for completion. Full-time students can complete this degree is seven quarters with the last quarter being a full-time internship. 

Campus Location

The Early Childhood Care and Education associate degree program is offered on both the Ben Hill-Irwin campus and Coffee campus. Certain courses are also available online.

Employment Opportunities

Childcare centers, family childcare homes, group childcare homes, Headstart programs, preschool programs, before- and after-school programs, and in-home care provide employment opportunities for graduates of the Early Childhood Care and Education degree program. A graduate of the ECCE degree program can also gain employment as a paraprofessional.


Entrance Requirements*

Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Placement exam required.

*A satisfactory criminal background check must be completed prior to entering the ECCE Practicum. A felony conviction could prevent employment in the ECCE field.
